Community facilities, youth programmes and campaigning

Residents continue to voice concerns about the lack of youth facilities and therefore absence of youth service support in the North Kilburn area. Several small initiatives are taking place but no overall solution to the problem that there are no facilities in which to locate youth and community workers and to co-ordinate programmes to focus on the local needs. Here's a quick update:

Developments
- Commitment from Kilburn Youth Centre to provide generic and music-specific sessions for young people from North Kilburn
- Funding commitment from South Kilburn NDC
- Brent Centre for young people running a workshop for 5 young people to run a film project on their experience of living in Kilburn and to promote services for young people, including sexual health, drug and related problems.

Issues
Scout Hut, designated for community use, has been on market and a commercial buyer is showing interest, but constrained by planning consent. Applicants will need to show there is no demand for community facilities and/or make contribution to reproviding this. Funding from the Kilburn Sq development due to go to planning committee this month could also contribute.

Residents around Dunster Gardens and James Stewart House in Dyne Rd are concerned about the anti-social behaviour of some young people in the area and point out there are a lack of facilities. They have petitioned for action and I am leading a multi-agency group to address the problems.
