London Assembly Elections
In brief you will be asked to vote for the Mayor, a named Assembly Member, and a party (this is sometime referred to as a top-up vote). The election is on 1 May 2008.

For those of you interested in supporting Navin Shah in his campaign, which will begin in March, there is plenty to do. Get in touch with Mary Arnold (cllr.mary.arnold@brent.gov.uk), the Labour Councillor for Kilburn, and she can tell you more.
Happy voting!

As part of Labour's national day of action in marginal seats, we will
be campaigning in Islington South & Finsbury. It is the most marginal
Labour/Lib Dem seat in England and is one of the key seats we need to
hold at the next general election to ensure a Labour government.
Please join us for some campaigning and lunch with Emily Thornberry
MP to help make sure we get her re-elected. There will be a
session in the morning from 11am in nearby blocks, followed by a bite
to eat and then a big group effort on a nearby estate from 2pm,
meeting point again Islington Green, and then some refreshments in a
nearby pub.
If you haven't been campaigning for Labour before, just get in touch
in advance and we will make sure you are paired with an experienced,
friendly campaigner.

The Kilburn State is under threat!
When it opened in 1937, The Kilburn State -- a Grade II* listed building -- was the biggest auditorium in Europe, with seating for 4,004 people. Since then, The State has played host to a galaxy of stars -- The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, Marilyn Monroe, David Bowie, Louis Armstrong, Sarah Vaughan, George Formby, Deep Purple, and many many more. And for the past 20 years, The State has been run by Mecca Bingo.
But now Mecca is selling up. The State is closing, and its future is in the balance.
There's a serious danger that The State could fall into the hands of unsympathetic property developers, who will deliberately allow the The State decay, and then, when it is beyond repair, tear it down to build flats.
Don't let The Kilburn State be destroyed! Join the campaign to return it to its former glory as a vibrant cultural centre in the heart of London.

Thanks to all those who have already helped with campaigning in the Stonebridge by-election campaign. Polling day is this Thursday and we are hoping to have as many people as possible helping over the next couple of days to make sure we win.
As part of Labour's national marginal seats campaign day, we will be campaigning this Saturday in marginal Islington South & Finsbury. Emily Thornberry MP and her staff have been invaluable running many of the recent council by-elections in North London and setting up the NLLCC. It would be great to make sure we have a good turnout to show our appreciation and help make sure we hold this seat at the next general election to ensure a Labour government.

Stonebridge by-election -- Thurs 13th Sept
place next Thursday (13th September)?
Canvassing takes place at 6.30pm every evening, and 11am on Saturdays
and Sundays. The meeting point is outside Life FM, Stonebridge Precinct.

It's crucial that we continue the good campaigning record that we saw
in Haverstock and Dudden Hill. The Lib Dems have been spreading their
poisonous leaflets around as usual as they want to try and build a
base where they had none before for the next general election.
Contact: 07709 968 810 in case you need directions or if you cannot
make it for 6.30pm - they'll give you directions as to where the
canvassing is taking place.
Can you help on polling day, or on eve of poll? If so, please email
Dawn Butler MP on dawnbutlermp@gmail.com with your name, contact
details and times you can help.
The by-election has come about because of the sad death of
Councillor Dorman Long.
