London Assembly Elections

The London Assembly elections are coming up soon, and Navin Shah is our candidate. For those of you wishing to learn more about the Assembly follow the link below.

In brief you will be asked to vote for the Mayor, a named Assembly Member, and a party (this is sometime referred to as a top-up vote). The election is on 1 May 2008.

For those of you interested in supporting Navin Shah in his campaign, which will begin in March, there is plenty to do. Get in touch with Mary Arnold (cllr.mary.arnold@brent.gov.uk), the Labour Councillor for Kilburn, and she can tell you more.

Happy voting!

Dr Tom Dickins

The Kilburn State is under threat!

When it opened in 1937, The Kilburn State -- a Grade II* listed building -- was the biggest auditorium in Europe, with seating for 4,004 people. Since then, The State has played host to a galaxy of stars -- The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, Marilyn Monroe, David Bowie, Louis Armstrong, Sarah Vaughan, George Formby, Deep Purple, and many many more. And for the past 20 years, The State has been run by Mecca Bingo.

But now Mecca is selling up. The State is closing, and its future is in the balance.

There's a serious danger that The State could fall into the hands of unsympathetic property developers, who will deliberately allow the The State decay, and then, when it is beyond repair, tear it down to build flats.

Don't let The Kilburn State be destroyed! Join the campaign to return it to its former glory as a vibrant cultural centre in the heart of London.

Stonebridge by-election -- Thurs 13th Sept

Can you help in the Stonebridge by election which will be taking
place next Thursday (13th September)?

Canvassing takes place at 6.30pm every evening, and 11am on Saturdays
and Sundays. The meeting point is outside Life FM, Stonebridge Precinct.
http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?q=London,+NW10,+UK&sa=X&oi=map&ct=title

It's crucial that we continue the good campaigning record that we saw
in Haverstock and Dudden Hill. The Lib Dems have been spreading their
poisonous leaflets around as usual as they want to try and build a
base where they had none before for the next general election.

Contact: 07709 968 810 in case you need directions or if you cannot
make it for 6.30pm - they'll give you directions as to where the
canvassing is taking place.

Can you help on polling day, or on eve of poll? If so, please email
Dawn Butler MP on dawnbutlermp@gmail.com with your name, contact
details and times you can help.

The by-election has come about because of the sad death of
Councillor Dorman Long.
